A man charged in a County of Wetaskiwin homicide three-and-a-half years ago is now serving a life sentence with no eligibility for parole for 18 years.
Corey James Anderson, 47, of Wetaskiwin County, was sentenced on Sept. 25, 2025, after being convicted of the lesser offence of second-degree murder. He was also given a lifetime firearms prohibition.
Anderson was previously scheduled for a jury trial in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench from March 30-April 17, 2026.
He was originally scheduled for a jury trial in Wetaskiwin, however, from June 9-20, 2025.
It was on Nov. 25, 2022, when Breton RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a rural location in Wetaskiwin County. As the investigation developed, officers from the Central Alberta District GIS Unit and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were deployed and took over the investigation.
Mounties say the deceased was identified as a 44-year-old Wetaskiwin County resident.
As a result of the investigation, on Dec. 16, 2022, the suspect was arrested and originally charged with first-degree murder.
