A Drayton Valley man accused of threatening to kill a member of the public and any responding RCMP members last year, has now been sentenced.
Shane Curtis Seely, 37, was convicted on counts of possession of property over $5000, and fail to comply with release conditions on July 23, 2026, and later convicted of threats cause death/bodily harm, and possession of prohibited firearm, on Sept. 8, 2026, receiving a global sentence of 12 months.
He was also given a lifetime firearm prohibition, and 12 months of probation following his release.
According to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), however, Seely had more than one year of pre-trial custody, so his sentence amounted to time served.
He was previously scheduled for trial in Drayton Valley Court of Justice on Oct. 15, 2026.
It was on the morning of Sept. 11, 2025, when Drayton Valley RCMP received a report regarding a man they say threatened to kill a member of the public as well as RCMP members, should they get involved. Police also obtained information that the suspect had access to firearms.
Officers confirmed the victim was somewhere safe and began obtaining warrants. The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services were also called to assist with the situation.
However, before police could execute the warrants they obtained, they say the suspect fled the scene. He was later identified and arrested by Wetaskiwin RCMP, allegedly in connection to a stolen vehicle they located.
Police say the firearms were determined to be imitations and were found in an open gun safe.
Seely was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody.
