The Drayton Valley Thunder had mixed success over the weekend, doubling up on the Whitecourt Wolverines 6-3 on the road, but dropping a 3-1 decision to the Lloydminster Bobcats at home.
On Oct. 2, the Thunder’s Dylan Snelgrove opened the scoring for a 1-0 lead at 1:49, his third goal of the season came with assistance from Will Jamieson and Dane Pyatt. The Wolverines tied it 1-1 at 14:31.
Drayton Valley dominated the action in period two, with Daniel Zhou scoring at 5:29 to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. The helpers went to Dane Pyatt and Boris Sigachev.
Colson Ganser boosted that to 3-1 at 10:16, with assistance from Oskar Aitken-Salmons.
At 17:53, Wolverine Jake Banicevic went to the box, putting Drayton on the man advantage. George Monaghan took the opportunity to net another for the Thunder to make it 4-1, with Taynton Lavender and Dylan Snelgrove assisting on the play.
Lavender and Snelgrove were on the assist again to start period three, when Loughlan McMullan boosted Drayton Valley’s lead to 5-1.
The Wolverines answered at 8:50 to narrow that lead to 5-2, but Boris Sigachev scored another for the Thunder at 14:49 to make it 6-2. He was assisted by Daniel Zhou and Dane Pyatt.
A late goal by Whitecourt with nine seconds left in the game brought the final score to 6-3.

The Thunder opened the scoring in first period action again when they hosted the Lloydminster Bobcats on Oct. 3. Keston Beagle’s first of the season was assisted by Caedem Emmett and Damian Hill in earning the 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats netted two goals in period two to make it 2-1, including a power play goal. An empty netter in period three secured the 3-1 win for Lloydminster after Drayton pulled their goalie.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are still third in the AJHL South Division, with a record of 3-1-2-0.
They are back on home ice on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11.
