The Drayton Valley Thunder start regular season action this Friday evening in Olds, followed by their home opener on Sunday.
On Sept. 18, they take on the Grizzlys at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday, they host the Calgary Canucks at the Team Auctions Centre at 2 p.m.
Sunday’s home opener will also feature a pre-game ceremony.
Head Coach and General Manager Jeff Truitt, recently spoke with Big West Country to share his goals for the upcoming season.
“The five-on-five scoring has to improve; we know that. But we think that with the additions we made through our recruiting and whatnot, and some other guys, we’ve bolstered that,” he said. “We’ve got more size, we’ve got more speed. There’s been great early chemistry here.”
Next week, the team heads north to Fort McMurray and Whitecourt for three games. Truitt said he was hoping for a road trip early on, as he sees it as a bonding experience for the team.
“I think that’s a real good thing for us. For me, I think it’s better to be on the road early,” he commented.
