Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services and the RCMP responded to a fire at the Aspen Waste Management Facility over the weekend.
The fire was reported around 11:45 p.m. on Friday, July 24, and the town said it was extinguished by about 4 a.m. the next morning. Crews also continued monitoring the landfill for flare-ups in the following hours.
Heavy equipment, including three bulldozers, one track hoe and a rock truck, assisted with extinguishing and containing the blaze.
The landfill was closed over the weekend as a result of the incident but is expected to reopen Monday, July 27.
The town says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
