A Red Warning – Tornado has been issued for the Peers, Niton Junction areas, MacKay, Wildwood, and Evansburg areas.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), at 6:50 p.m. MDT, meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.
The thunderstorm is just west of MacKay and is moving to the east at 45 km/h. The storm is likely producing hail the size of ping pong to tennis ball size.
This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches.

Action to take:
- Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches
- If no shelter is available, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris
- If you are out on the water when threatening weather approaches, return to shore and seek shelter, if possible, or move directly away from the path of the tornado
- Otherwise, wear your lifejacket, lie face down and protect your head
