Brazeau County Reeve Bart Guyon has resigned from council, effective immediately.
The county reports he cited health reasons when he submitted his resignation.
As a result, a special meeting will be held Tuesday, July 28, to introduce the resignation to the public record, confirm interim leadership arrangements and set next steps for a county by-election.
“On behalf of council, I want to thank Bart for his service to Brazeau County, and to wish him well as he prioritizes his health,” said Deputy Reeve Dallas Ekstrom. “Our focus now is on continuity; making sure residents remain well-served and well-represented; and on managing this transition responsibly. Council will take the steps required to fill the vacancy, and we’ll keep residents informed as we do.”
More information regarding the subsequent by-election will be shared on the county website as it becomes available.
Out of respect for the former reeve’s privacy, the county says it will not comment further on Guyon’s resignation at this time.
