The new bylaw consolidates six existing pieces of legislation into one document in an effort to modernize the policy and make it more accessible to residents. It also features speed limit changes.
Two specific locations have new speed limits under the new bylaw:
- Near the Drayton Valley Museum (44 Avenue and 60 Street), the speed limit has been increased to 30 km/h from 20 km/h.
- On Ring Road (35 Street), the speed limit from the south boundary, near the Water Treatment Plant, north to Township Road 494, has been increased to 80 km/h from 60 km/h.
Additionally, a standard speed limit of 50 km/h has been established for all municipal roads, unless otherwise posted.
The following changes were also made:
- Updated truck and dangerous goods routes to reduce heavy vehicle traffic through the downtown core and along portions of 50 Avenue and 50 Street.
- Increased notice requirements for temporary no-parking zones related to snow removal and street maintenance.
- Updated fine amounts for traffic-related offences.
- Introduction of road use agreements and right-of-way agreements for work occurring within municipal roadways.
- Enhanced provisions allowing the town to recover costs associated with damage to municipal roads, sidewalks and other transportation infrastructure.
- Updated regulations regarding election signs and temporary advertising signs within road rights-of-way.
- Updated provisions for school buses, off-highway vehicles, bicycles and other wheeled transportation devices.
