Brazeau County’s Wildfire Automated Sprinkler Protection (WASP) program is underway and 77 WASP sprinkler kits are available.
The WASP program is a two-pronged approach to mitigating wildfire risk on rural properties. The first component includes having a trained fire department assessor visit a rural property to review fire risks and provide recommendations on improving the property’s resilience.
The second involves the installation of a WASP Home Protection Kit. These kits include two agricultural-grade sprinkler heads, a fire department-grade hose and sprinkler mounts for residential gutters and fences. They can be connected to the household water supply or supplemented by Fire Services during emergency situations.

The WASP program began in 2025 and required staff training, equipment orders and trailer modifications to get up and running. Once complete, 23 rural residential properties underwent assessments and received WASP kits.
Brazeau County council received a report on the first year of the program during its regular meeting on May 5.
