Parkland County has declared a local state of emergency in the Beau Rand Estates region after a wildfire broke out over the weekend.
The county issued a wildfire alert on May 3 around 1:30 p.m.
The state of emergency applies to everyone between Range Road 11 and Range Road 281, and from the river north to Township Road 505.
As of 9:15 p.m. Sunday night, the fire was being held at approximately 20 hectares, and crews remained on site overnight.
Residents of the area should prepare to evacuate by taking the following precautions:
- Fuel vehicles
- Gather identification and important documents
- Pack enough clothes and belongings for up to 72 hours, including pet supplies
- Gather medications and devices
While no evacuation is required at this time, officials say declaring the state of emergency allows firefighters to set up sprinklers on private property.
Parkland County will share updates on Facebook and the county website. Updates on the state of emergency will also be available through Alberta Emergency Alert.
