Men in Drayton Valley and the surrounding region are invited to participate in a free prostate cancer test and mental wellness assessment tomorrow.
The Man Van will be at the Team Auctions Centre from 1-5 p.m. on May 2 to celebrate the 11th Annual Drayton Valley Pro Rodeo.
This is the second year the van has been on site to offer prostate cancer and other medical tests. Last year, 55 individuals were tested, and six tests were positive.
The prostate cancer test is a blood test that should take 10-15 minutes, with results typically available within a few days. Men between the ages of 40-70 are eligible for this free test.
“It’s quick, it’s painless, it’s not embarrassing, it’s not invasive and it could save lives very easily,” commented Mark Raines, a battalion chief for Brazeau County Fire Services and organizer of the event.
Additionally, the Man Van will offer mental wellness checks for any man over 18, along with blood pressure and blood sugar tests.
“All those things that you usually go to your doctor for, but like stats say, men are 67 per cent less likely to visit a doctor,” explained Raines.
Appointments are not necessary, and wait times were reportedly minimal last year.
