The Drayton Valley Thunder’s Taynton Lavender has been named the AJHL Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 19-25.
The 2006-born defenceman leads the Thunder with 32 points in 29 games played after adding six points, one goal and five assists, in his last three games.
Last Wednesday, the Thunder took on the Grande Prairie Storm at the AJHL Showcase, resulting in a 5-4 overtime loss. Lavender was named Player of the Game with a goal and two assists.
On Jan. 24, he picked up another assist against the Canmore Eagles.
Sunday, he picked up two more assists in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Camrose Kodiaks, earning Player of the Game again.
