The Drayton Valley Thunder are now on a four-game skid following two road losses over the weekend.
On Dec. 19, they were crushed 8-2 by the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
Just nine seconds in, the Thunder’s Colson Ganser went to the box for a cross checking minor, giving the Pontiacs a shot at a powerplay goal 50 seconds later for a quick 1-0 lead.
Thirty seconds later, Pontiac Liam Reed earned a tripping minor, allowing Damian Hill to tie it up 1-1 for Drayton on the powerplay. Caedem Emmett and Dryden Tomkow got the helpers.
Bonnyville netted seven more goals throughout the game, going unanswered by the Thunder until the last 49 seconds of the game. With their last powerplay shot, Jack Sears assisted Will Jamieson with Drayton’s second point of the night.
Bonnyville also outshot Drayton Valley 38-27.
On Saturday, they were edged 2-1 by the Lloydminster Bobcats.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead at 15:18 in period one.
In the second frame, Lloydminster scored again at 5:52 for a 2-0 lead. About 10 minutes later, the Thunder’s Billy Hooson and Lloydminster’s Kade Fendelet dropped the gloves, earning fighting and game misconduct majors.
With 1:58 left in period three, Jerrett Ross scored his third goal of the season to narrow the Bobcats’ lead to 2-1. Caedem Emmett assisted.
Thunder goalie Kaden Clegg had his work cut out for him that night, stopping 38 shots on goal.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are heading into the holidays in fifth in the AJHL South Division with 10-17-2-0, one point ahead of the Olds Grizzlys.
They’re back on home ice on Jan. 3 to host the Drumheller Dragons in a 5 p.m. face-off.
