On Saturday night, the Drayton Valley Thunder toppled the Calgary Canucks 5-1 in the first of back-to-back weekend home games.
With assistance from the Thunder’s Dryden Tomkow, Loughlan McMullan opened the scoring at 4:29.
Caedem Emmett followed that up with a shorthanded goal about 10 minutes later, with help from Billy Hooson, bumping the Thunder to a 2-0 lead.
Then a hooking minor at 15:39 by Drayton’s Cohen Carter put Calgary on the powerplay, and Adam M’Hamed took advantage at 16:47 to bring the score to 2-1. Riley Bracko and Josh Kelly got the helpers.
In the second frame, Daniel Zhou netted one for the Thunder with assistance from Caedem Emmett and Taynton Lavender, starting a streak of powerplay goals.
Heading into the third at 3-1 in Drayton’s favour, the Canucks held the team off until Adam Halat earned a holding minor at 14:02. One minute later, Drayton’s Dylan Snelgrove scored on the powerplay. Jerrett Ross and Avery Watson assisted.
The Thunder’s Colson Ganser secured the 5-1 win at 16:51, with the helpers going to Dryden Tomkow and Daniel Zhou.
Sunday, Nov. 23, the Canmore Eagles flipped the script and beat the Thunder 5-1.
Will Jamieson scored the Thunder’s single point at 19:08 in period one, with assistance from Dylan Snelgrove and Colson Ganser. It was his sixth goal of the season.
Period three saw Drayton’s Colson Ganser and Canmore’s Jonathan Gomez earn game misconduct penalties and fighting majors at 15:16.
The Drayton Valley Thunder are fifth in the AJHL South Division at 7-11-2-0, while the Canmore Eagles and Calgary Canucks are second and third, respectively.
