It was a tough weekend for the Drayton Valley Thunder as they lost 6-3 to the Bonnyville Pontiacs on home ice Saturday night and 8-1 to the Wolverines in Whitecourt on Sunday.
Saturday night’s game saw the Thunder’s Avery Watson score his fourth goal of the season and Taynton Lavender score his eighth of the season, both in the first period, which ended with the teams tied 2-2. Lavender’s goal came on the power play.
The second period saw the visiting Pontiacs score twice to take a 4-2 lead after two periods.
The third period saw Bonnyville score two more and the Thunder getting one more we well, this time from Nash Nicolay, his second of the season.
The game ended in a 6-3 final.

On Sunday, it was a dominant performance from Whitecourt, scoring four unanswered goals in the first period, then adding a fifth in the second period before Drayton Valley scored to make it 5-1 after two.
The Thunder’s lone goal of the game came from Damian Hill who netted his fifth of the season while on the power play.
The Wolverines added three more goals in the third period to make it an 8-1 final.
The back-to-back losses over the weekend drop the Thunder’s record to 5-9-2 and fifth place in the AJHL’s South Division.
Drayton Valley’s next games will be on Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, both in Fort McMurray for a double header with the 9-5-3 Oil Barons.
