The month of September marks Culture Days in Alberta, a month-long celebration of art, music, dance, food and more.
Last year, 247,000 residents attended events across the province. This year, to get even more people out, the government says it’s awarded $380,000 in grants to support 111 organizations in 48 communities to host their events.
It’s also offering free admission to its 20 provincially owned museums, historic sites and archives on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28.
Throughout the month, the following Culture Days events are happening around your region:
Drayton Valley
The weekend of Sept. 19-21, the Drayton Valley Multicultural Association is hosting Culture Unboxed: Opening Up the Beauty of World Traditions Through Interactive Experiences.
The three day festival is a celebration of global cultures, where attendees can discover traditions through interactive booths and collect cultural tokens, recipe cards and artisan stickers.
There will be multicultural cuisine, dance demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
It all takes place at the Clean Energy Technology Centre (5400 24 Avenue) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Carvel
The Carvel Ukrainian Cultural Society is hosting two events at Carvel Hall.
Community Roots: Celebrating Ukrainian Culture takes place on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to learn about and celebrate Ukrainian culture and traditions.
