Brazeau County residents have a new opportunity to upgrade their home fire safety.
Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services are holding a draw for the Advanced Home Assessment and Wildfire Protection Program, which will provide a FireSmart Home Assessment and wildfire sprinkler protection kit to 100 entrants.
During the assessment, a FireSmart representative will tour your property with you to offer advice and recommendations on how to reduce wildfire risk around your home. If immediate actions are recommended, they must be completed within three months to then be eligible for the WASP Wildfire Protection Kit.
The WASP Wildfire Protection Kit utilizes existing outdoor water sources to create a protective water curtain around your home, wetting combustible surfaces and increasing their resistance to ignition, the county explains.
The kit includes two agriculture-grade sprinkler heads designed to create a broad spray; two gutter mount sprinkler brackets, for sprinkler head installation; two fire department-grade hoses to connect the sprinklers to a water supply; and two additional mounting brackets. Together, these tools should create a continuous water barrier, cool the area as water evaporates and help extinguish flying embers.
Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on July 25. An entry form is available here or by calling 780-514-2216, and more information is available online.
