A total fire ban is now in effect for Drayton Valley and Brazeau County.
Officials say the restriction was escalated Friday afternoon due to hot and dry weather conditions and a provincial fire ban in the area. Bans are issued when the fire hazard in the area is very high to extreme.
This means existing burn permits will be cancelled, no new permits will be issued, and wood campfires, even in an approved fire pit, are not permitted. Fireworks and exploding targets are also banned at the moment.
Meantime, propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, and catalytic or infrared style heaters are permissible.
