November 28
3:17 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Complainant reported that someone had entered her unlocked car, stole some change and ransacked the inside on an apparent quest for valuables. Incident occurred sometime after 6:00 a.m. Under investigation.
November 29
12:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a female had been shoplifting. Member attended and identified the female who was issued a notice under the Trespass Act to not return. All items had been retrieved by staff. The female returned later and was causing a disturbance, so members re-attended and arrested her. She was then held in cells to sober up. A small quantity of illicit drugs were seized.
12:50 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported an unknown female wearing a safety vest came onto her property and photographed the backyard. Member did not locate any suspicious female’s but given the time of day suggested several legitimate reasons she may have been there. No other calls received.
4:02 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Complainant reported a female had shoplifted an item, which wasn’t determined until after she left. Member identified the suspect. Under investigation, complainant unsure on whether she wants charges.
7:28 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 N – Complainant reported a vehicle driving erratically. Member located the Jeep driving with one rear tire missing. A MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand was read and the driver provided samples of his breath which confirmed he was impaired. The driver was issued a 90-day provincial impaired driving sanction and his vehicle was seized for 30 days.
10:08 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male and female had shoplifted two bottles of liquor. The male distracted the clerk while the female committed the theft. Under investigation.
November 30
7:55 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male house guest woke up after partying and was intoxicated and aggressive. The suspect then left but took the complainants phone. Members spoke to the suspect who stated he tried to give the phone back but the complainant was too agitated. The male agreed to return the phone, which he did, but in the process assaulted another male (see report at 3:21 p.m.)
3:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that when a male came to return a phone to a friend, he was punched in the chest by the male returning the phone. The complainant requested some time to consider his options and the following day decided he would just let this indiscretion slide. No further action requested.
December 1
9:51 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that the previous day a window was smashed on her vehicle and an iPad stolen. The iPad had been briefly turned on and a location was provided that covered several residences. Members later received a second file (see Dec. 2, at 8:18 p.m.) and located the iPad with a known male who was charged with possession of stolen property and released with a court date. This male provided information suggesting the thief was a male who was already a prime suspect in recent thefts from vehicles (see Dec. 3, at 6:18 p.m.)
11:33 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that a co-worker of her husband had been making odd and possibly threatening comments. Members spoke to the husband who has known the suspect for years and isn’t concerned, and stated he believes the behaviour is related to a sobriety issue. Member spoke to the suspect a couple days later who confirmed he had slipped up but has cleaned up his act.
2:32 p.m. – Tomahawk area – Complainant reported that he had located a white F350 on his property; truck was missing its wheels and had other damage. Member attended, truck determined to have been stolen in Edmonton a couple of weeks prior. Truck recovered, owner and Edmonton Police advised.
11:38 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 44 Ave – Complainant reported a truck by his driveway with the doors open, and that someone had been banging on his door. Members attended and determined the truck belonged to a neighbour. The neighbour explained that the truck was his, and that he had been approached and attacked by three suspects over a drug debt, and that he had tried knocking on the neighbour’s door for help. The suspects had since left and the debtor did not want to provide any further information.
December 2
1:34 p.m. – Brazeau County – Violet Grove – Complainant reported that a forestry harvesting attachment had been stolen from a lease site sometime within the past month. Under investigation.
2:17 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50A St – Complainant reported diesel fuel stolen from trucks parked in a company yard.
8:18 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 7/11 – Complainant reported that her stolen iPad was pinging at 7/11. Members attended and arrested a known male and recovered the iPad. The suspect provided some information as to how he obtained it, which was of assistance to other investigations. The male was released to appear in court at a later date.
8:43 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 7/11 – While members were on scene at the previous call a male reported items stolen from his vehicle the night before. Under investigation.
December 3
1:30 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 48 St – Complainant reported her purse stolen from her truck sometime in the morning. Under investigation.
5:29 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant reported a truck and trailer headed east that was not properly lit for night travel. Member conducted a traffic stop at the intersection with Highway 22 and found several violations with the unit. Ticket issued to the driver who parked the unit for the night as he wasn’t able to rectify the issues roadside.
6:03 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported that his truck had been rummaged through while he was in Subway, and his lunch bag with wallet was stolen. Member was in the area and checked nearby surveillance video which showed the suspect inside a store, then exit and head directly to the complainant’s truck in the parking lot. Members identified the suspect and obtained a warrant to search a residence nearby where the suspect had been residing. 31-year-old Kyle Parkhurst and a 31-year-old Brittney Schoenthal were arrested at the residence and items were recovered that connected the pair to a string of recent thefts from vehicles in the downtown area of Drayton Valley. Schoenthal was held for a telephone bail hearing and released by a Justice of the Peace on approximately two-dozen charges including breaching conditions, possession of stolen property and possession of identity documents. Parkhurst was held for a telephone bail hearing on over 40 charges including theft, possession of stolen property, breaching conditions, possessing identity documents, possession of weapons and possession of drugs. Parkhurst was remanded in custody.
8:15 p.m. – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant reported a vehicle in the ditch on Range Road 73 near Rocky Rapids. Member attended with a County Peace Officer, driver refused medical treatment. Member issued an ASD (approved screening device) demand and the driver provided two samples, both resulting in a “fail.” The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded.
10:07 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported two youths stumbling in the street and one laying on the road. Members attended and located all three with the complainant, who had stopped to assist. Two youth were driven home to feel the shame of their disapproving parents, while the third was brought to cells to sober up. Paramedics then had to transport the youth to the hospital due to his level of intoxication.
December 4
10:00 a.m. – Tomahawk area – Member conducted a curfew check on a female on 24-hour house arrest. Member determined the female was breaching. The female was located the following day and arrested. 30-year-old Brooke Schmelzer was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently remanded in custody by a Justice of the Peace.
11:29 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported a backpack with laptop inside stolen from his car the previous day. Members were able to advise the complainant that his backpack and laptop were already recovered. (see December 3 at 6:03 p.m.).
3:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that while he was out of town for a couple weeks there were a number of fraudulent interac transfers out of his account, totaling about $500. Under investigation.
