April 18
12:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S – Complainant reported a transaction was made the evening prior at a gas station, using her debit card but she has the card. Complainant doesn’t know how it happened, requesting police investigate. Under investigation.
6:28 p.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported several concerns revolving around a family member. She was concerned that her dogs had gone without water; member suggested she either speak to the SPCA or a county Peace Officer. The complainant also mentioned some mental health concerns; member again provided some guidance as the situation did not require immediate attention. Member then arrested the complainant as she had an unrelated warrant from another area; she was subsequently released to appear later in court.
8:23 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 47 Ave – Complainant reported that people she didn’t recognize were at a neighbouring residence removing property, and that several tenants had been arrested and removed earlier by police. Member investigated and identified the people at the residence and was able to confirm they had been asked to remove property by the tenant who was in police custody.
April 19
10:09 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that he has received several calls over the past couple weeks with unknown persons threatening to burn his truck if he didn’t pay the money he owed. Complainant reported for documentation only, possibly an attempted scam.
11:01 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported a truck stolen overnight from a business yard. Truck is a 2006 grey F350. Under investigation.
3:33 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Complainant reported a trampoline tucked in the trees near his house. Member jumped on the call and retrieved the small trampoline, which is at the RCMP detachment in case anyone is missing it.
5:24 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that unknown culprits entered a business yard and damaged and/or stole from several vehicles in storage. Under investigation.
7:00 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/Hwy 39 – Complainant reported an erratic driver headed East on Hwy 39. Member determined that the elderly owner of the vehicle would likely then head north on Hwy 759 toward his residence. Patrols were made but the car wasn’t located. The owner was subsequently called and warned.
April 20
12:01 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Member on patrol observed a male consuming alcohol outside of the bar. Member went to speak to the male who then decided to take off running. The male eventually ran back inside the bar and started doing laps around tables to avoid being dealt with. He was arrested for public intoxication and held in cells to sober up. Even though the male had been able to run, once under arrest he was “unable” to walk so had to be dragged from the bar.
12:33 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Complainant reported a bulldozer driving erratically, north on RR 73. The complainant suspected the operator was impaired. Members responded and located the John Deere 850 in Rocky Rapids. A traffic stop was conducted and thankfully the operator stopped, as nothing runs (into police cars) like a Deere. Investigation determined that the bulldozer had been stolen and driven up RR 73 from the water plant property. 34-year-old Nicholas Smith of Evansburg was arrested and charged with several offences, including break and enter, mischief and theft of a motor vehicle. Smith was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently remanded in custody.
2:57 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Members responded to a fight outside the bar, with one party knocked out on the street. Investigation determined there had been an earlier incident which lead to the second. Two males were treated in hospital and charged with assault. Both will appear in court at a later date. Under investigation.
1:47 p.m. – Brazeau County – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant reported her son and two friends were in her garage with some stripped copper wire. Member attended and seized the wire until the son can prove his version of events where he claimed the wire had been scavenged with permission from a company representative.
2:22 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant attended the detachment with a handgun she found while collecting bottles. Member determined the handgun was only a BB gun.
10:03 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 N – Complainant reported an erratic driver in a white truck that was all over the road. The complainant suspected an impaired driver. Members located the truck and obtained a breath sample which showed the driver was sober. The driver stated he had been startled by bright lights.
10:06 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 72 – Complainant reported a party ongoing at a neighbour’s residence since 1:00 p.m.; loud music, drinking and the consumption of marijuana. Member attended and the occupant turned down the music when requested. The occupant stated they had spoken to neighbours and provided them with a phone number if the noise became an issue, though one neighbour had refused to speak to them.
April 21
7:53 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a break and enter to a business yard that occurred at 3:00 a.m.
8:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that sometime over the previous night a Southland dump trailer was stolen from a business yard. Under investigation.
April 22
6:14 a.m. – Brazeau County – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported theft from a lease site, occurred over the past couple days.
7:47 a.m. – Brazeau County – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant’s reported a garage window broken and believes some tools are missing; suspect is the brother and son of the complainants. Member attended and was unable to confirm entry had been made. It’s possible that the damage was caused by weather over the past day or so.
8:24 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported being defrauded of $500 by a lottery scam. The complainant received a call telling him he had won $285,000 and a Mercedes from Stars Lottery, he just needed to provide a $500 prepaid Visa card. Complainant provided the Visa but didn’t receive anything other than multiple further calls from the suspect. Police would like to remind people that if you are asked to pay a fee it is a scam.
9:43 a.m. – Brazeau County – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant reported his garage door open slightly. Unable to confirm any offence took place. See report from 7:47 a.m.
10:08 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported that a male had knowingly given her a sexually transmitted infection when they had consensual sex. Under investigation.
10:40 a.m. – Brazeau County – Complainant reported the theft of cables from equipment parked at a rural location. Damage was extensive, under investigation.
12:11 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a break and enter to his residence, he suspects it is a former roommate. Nothing belonging to the complainant was taken. Under investigation.
2:28 p.m. – Brazeau County – Berrymoor area – Complainant reported being scammed out of about $1500. The complainant received a phone call from someone purporting to be with her credit card company telling her to click on a link sent via email, after opening the link money was fraudulently charged to her card. Under investigation.
3:50 p.m. – Brazeau County – Violet Grove area – Complainant reported trespassing on a lease site, complainant suspects thieves planning to return.
April 23
7:32 a.m. – Tomahawk – Member responded to a two-vehicle collision just south of Tomahawk. The driver of a car stated he swerved to avoid an animal, hit the ditch, striking and breaking a power pole. A second truck was hit by wires and damaged.
7:55 a.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 494 – Member on patrol was advised by oilfield security personnel who reported a truck abandoned on a lease site. Member attended and confirmed the truck had been stolen from Whitecourt on April 14. Under investigation.
2:15 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported unknown suspects cut the fence to a storage yard and tried to steal a pickup truck. No evidence available to charge.
3:58 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a male sleeping in a dumpster with a knife. Members attended and located the known male who stated he had been scavenging for bottles and had found the knife. Members seized the knife for destruction and advised the male (again) to stay out of dumpsters.
4:45 p.m. – Rocky Rapids – Several complaints were received of a possible impaired driver in a black truck, pulling a fifth-wheel trailer. The driver had been making vulgar statements about women and other topics and then drove off toward Drayton Valley on RR 73. Member located the truck and trailer in town and conducted a traffic stop. The driver did stop but snuck out the passenger side of the truck and fled on foot. The driver was not located in town but some time later the owner of the truck called to report it had been stolen by an employee from Rocky Rapids. Members attended and quickly determined that the owner reporting it stolen had in fact been driving and was impaired. A male in his 40’s from St. Albert was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and a court date for driving while suspended. The male was also charged with criminal impaired driving, public mischief and obstruction; he was released when sober to appear in court at a later date.
6:50 p.m. – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported wire stolen from a power pole near a lease site.
6:59 p.m. – Lodgepole area – Complainant reported theft of copper wire from several lease sites.
April 24
7:48 a.m. – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported that her car was rummaged through and her wallet stolen, sometime overnight. Transactions were made with her card at several locations. Under investigation.
8:34 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant reported an SUV following a school bus in a rural area. Complainant is concerned the SUV driver may be targeting children due to recently hearing there were human trafficking investigations ongoing. The complainant hadn’t seen the SUV today. RCMP have seen rumours circulating on social media suggesting there are multiple open human trafficking investigations in the area and would like to assure the public that this is not factual.
6:13 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported two female youths had stolen from a store. Under investigation to identify the two kleptomaniacs who were apparently captured on video at another nearby store.
