Brazeau County council passed a motion last week to empower the Reeve and Chief Administrative Officer to execute a revised Recreation Cost Sharing Agreement with the Town of Drayton Valley.
Officials say the agreement, which expires in March 2024, will see the County continue to pay 50 per cent of the net operating costs of recreation facilities and a percentage of the costs for the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC), equal to the percentage of County users of the Centre.
Furthermore, the County says it has paid the Town $454,548.28 in the year 2020 or its contribution toward the Town’s operating costs for the facilities, other than the ECDC. Officials say the County will make an immediate payment of $591,592.94 (the Retroactive Recreation Advance) to the Town.
In respect of the County’s Judicial Review, of the arbitrator’s decision, County officials note if the Court decides in favour of the County, the Town shall repay the Retroactive Recreation Advance.
