To fill an open spot on town council, Brazeau County will be holding its Division 1 byelection on April 3.
Officials confirm four candidates will be running for the opportunity to represent Division 1:
- Joe Beliveau
- Glen Gunderson
- Tara Harris
- Shirley A. McConnell
“There are many changes that I would like to see,” says Tara Harris. “One of the first is reducing unnecessary spending, especially in the paving projects that are done in the county,” she says. “I want to make sure those projects are necessary before we spend money on them.”
Shirley McConnell also commented to Big West Country on why residents should vote for her.
“I was a small business owner throughout my entire life; agriculture, forestry, meat shop, oil and gas, so I’ve got a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge around how this works,” she says. “We need to try and keep our taxes at a lower level and a lot of transparency needs to happen. No more closed-door meetings so we don’t know what is going on with the decisions they are making.”
Big West Country provided our contact information to all four candidates, but did not hear back from Beliveau and Gunderson by deadline.
Eligible voters in Division 1 can vote in the byelection April 3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Easyford Hall.
An advance vote was held March 30.
