Brazeau County council has approved a development permit to allow for the operation of an event centre with a racing school and accessory structures, along with a sign at the former Rapid Fire site.
However, with the new approval comes conditions as well:
- Expiry date for the permit is October 1, 2025
- Hours of operation for the school are May 1 to October 1, weekdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and weekends/ holidays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Public events may be held four times a year from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., the dates provided to the County can be no later than March 31 each year.
- Other events with less than 200 attendees, including motorized events, may run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- If extended hours of operation are required for special event purposes, the applicant/landowner shall submit a written request to Brazeau County to be reviewed and decided upon pursuant to the Special Events Bylaw.
- The applicant will provide public notification through local newspaper, radio, and Northern Thunder Motorsports Racing Association (NTMRA) website and County website.
- Noise measurements shall be taken while races are actively occurring and on a biweekly basis during race activities.
Other conditions include a prohibition on drag racing, a fire inspection, and a road use agreement with the County.
