The Town of Drayton Valley will be offering a break to college students to use the Town’s facilities.
At Drayton Valley Town council’s June 15, 2022 meeting, Town council approved the creation of a new post-secondary student rate for the Town’s recreational facilities.
Under the new plan, post-secondary students would be charged the same rate for annual and three month passes that students and seniors are charged.
This replaces the previous incentive for post-secondary students. The previous incentive was, when a post-secondary student purchased a three month pass, they got a fourth month free.
The main question administration had for Town council was how to define a post-secondary student. When administration first started considering they idea, people began inquiring if it would include people taking evening and online courses.
Council decided that the rate would only apply to full-time students, as the intent of the reduced rate was to attract post-secondary students who are coming home to Drayton Valley for the summer.
The new post-secondary student rate went into effect immediately.
