It is the end of the road for the Drayton Valley Thunder. The Spruce Grove Saints beat the Thunder 1-0 on April 13, knocking the Thunder out of the AJHL playoffs.
The Saints conducted an onslaught, outshooting the Thunder 41-11. But Thunder goalie Jackson Berry held the line. But the Thunder defense started to falter in the third period. Jacob Rochford got the game-winner for the Saints, scoring shorthanded at 9:51 in the third. Hunter Brown picked up the assist.
Both teams got nothing on the power play. The Saints went 0 for 4, while the Thunder went 0 for 2.
With the Saints victory, the Thunder have now been swept out of the playoffs. The Saints proved to be a rather aggressive team, beating the Thunder 4-0 in the AJHL North Division final.
The Saints now go on to play the Brooks Bandits for the Inter Pipeline Cup, the top prize in the AJHL.
