The Drayton Valley Thunder are off to the second round of the AJHL playoffs, as they beat the Lloydminister Bobcats 5-2 on March 11.
The Thunder were first on the board at 7:26. Grayson Reid scored on the power play, with Kadyn Chabot and Ethan Browne picking up the assists. At the end of the first, the Thunder had a 1-0 lead.
The Thunder kept things going in the second, as Kadyn Chabot scored at 8:21. Ethan Browne was credited with the assist. The Bobcats, however, finally got one at 19:30, as Nik Hoogendoorn scored unassisted. It was 2-1 for the Thunder at the end of the second.
The Thunder extended their lead with three goals in a row in the third. Grayson Reid got his second of the night at 3:45, scoring unassisted. Jack Silverberg then scored at 12:37, with Kadyn Chabot getting his second assist of the night. And then Daniel Kernaghan scored unassisted on the empty net at 18:11. But the Bobcats managed to get one more in at 19:45 as Hassan Akl scored, with Mack Stewart getting the assist. The final score was 5-2 for the Thunder.
The Bobcats came on strong, outshooting the Thunder 40-34. The Thunder were better on the power play though, going 1 for 2 while the Bobcats went 0 for 4.
The Thunder won the first round 4-1. The Thunder will now be playing the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in Round 2. The Oil Barons won their first round series against the Sherwood Park Crusaders 4-1. The date for game 1 has yet to be announced.
