The Drayton Valley Thunder have a 2-0 lead in their playoff series against the Lloydminister Bobcats, thanks to a pair of wins over the weekend.
The first victory came on Mar. 4, thanks to a 3-2 overtime win.
The Thunder were first on the board at 8:30 in the first period when Grayson Reid scored, with the assists going to Daniel Kernaghan and Brett Bamber. It was 1-0 for the Thunder at the end of the first.
The Bobcats got on the board in the second. Jayven Leslie scored shorthanded and unassisted at 9:58 to tie the game. Then the Bobcats took the lead at 11:29, as Tanner Fincaryk got the goal while Mack Stewart and Ethan Aucoin got the assists. As the second ended, the Bobcats had a 2-1 lead.
The Thunder then tied the game in the third period. Sammy May scored at 5:59, thanks to assists from Moe Hakim and Brody Tallman. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie, and May went on to score the winner in overtime. May scored unassisted at 4:05, making the final score 3-2 for the Thunder.
The Bobcats came out fighting, however, outshooting the Thunder 53-41. Both teams came up short on the power play. The Bobcats went 0 for 3, while the Thunder were 0 for 2.

On Mar. 5, it was déjà vu all over again, as the Thunder once again beat the Bobcats 3-2 in overtime.
The Bobcats were first on the board this time, as Tanner Fincaryk got the goal, while Ethan Aucoin and Jack Parker got the assists. The Bobcats then increased their lead, as Matthew Swanson scored at 18:54. Hassan Akl and Jayven Leslie were credited with the assists. The first ended with the Bobcats in a 2-0 lead.
The Thunder finally got on the board in the final minute of the second period though as Kadyn Chabot scored at 19:00, thanks to assists from Luca Ricci and Ethan Browne. The second ended with the Bobcats still in a 2-1 lead
Chabot then tied the game at 12:35 in the third, courtesy an assist from Brett Bamber and Jack Silverberg. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie, so once again, we were heading to overtime.
Moe Hakim scored the winner for the Thunder at 1:59 into OT, thanks to assists from Drew Sutton and Luca Ricci. Final score was 3-2 for the Thunder.
This time the Thunder outshot the Bobcats 45-35, while the Thunder went 0 for 3 with the man advantage and the Bobcats with no power play opportunities.
The Thunder now hope they can keep it up while they are on the road, as the next two games take place in Lloydminister. Game 3 is Mar. 8, game 4 is Mar. 9.
