People will be able to find Drayton Valley’s new Wendy’s now that town council has approved their sign.
At council’s Feb. 9 meeting, the new Wendy’s was granted a variance in the zoning bylaws for their sign.
It turns out that the standard sign for a Wendy’s is 250 per cent larger than what is currently allowed in Drayton’s bylaws. The Wendy’s sign is 17.5 square metres in size, while Drayton’s bylaws only allow for a sign of seven square metres.
Administration pointed out the sign meets every other requirement as laid out in Drayton’s zoning regulations, and the sign does not obstruct traffic or any other signs from neighbouring businesses.
In their research, administration also discovered the size of a Wendy’s sign is well within the zoning bylaws of towns of similar size.
With all of this information, administration recommended that council grant the variance.
Council voted to grant the variance, as Mayor Nancy Dodds pointed out that the sign is already up.
