The Town of Drayton Valley is taking steps to ensure the Town’s water system remains in good shape.
At Town council’s Jan. 19 meeting, the Town entered into an agreement with SUEZ Water Technologies and Solutions for maintenance to the ultra-filtration membranes.
Officials say the membranes are part of the water filtration system, and are a crucial part of cleaning water taken from the North Saskatchewan River.
The membranes usually have a life span of seven to fifteen years. While the current membranes still have a few years in them, Drayton mayor Nancy Dodds said that it was better to lock in a deal now, as a better price was available.
“The price of the agreement will save us money over the next 10 years,” said Dodds.
The final cost is $1.28 million, spread over the next 10 years. Without a 10 year agreement, the cost would be closer to $1.8 million.
