Crime continues to be on a downward trend in the Drayton Valley region.
At the Town of Drayton Valley’s Jan. 19 meeting, Drayton RCMP staff sergeant Erin Matthews showed up to deliver the monthly crime statistics for December 2021.
From the period of January to December 2021, Matthews says there has been a 17 per cent decrease in Criminal Code offences, when compared to the same time period in 2020.
Some of the highlights includes a 24 per cent decrease in property crimes. There were 953 in 2020, compared to 721 in 2021.
Breaking the numbers down further, there were 60 fewer instances of break and enter, 126 fewer instances of theft under $5000. There was no change in motor vehicle thefts. There were 103 instances in 2020, and 103 in 2021.
Sadly, persons crimes are on the rise, with a five per cent increase in 2021. The category with biggest jump was criminal harassment. There were 27 cases in 2020, and 40 in 2021, amounting to a 48 per cent jump.
