
Brazeau County is making some adjustments to its herbicide rebate policy.
At the County’s Jan. 18 meeting, council voted to raise the cap from $1600 for each participant to $5000. If funds remain after Sept. 30, the Agriculture Service Board will review applications that reach the allowable maximum amount and distribute the remaining funds.
Brazeau County is making its arbitration hearings with the Town of Drayton Valley public.
The four hearings were held in December, and Brazeau County council voted to post the videos of the hearings to the Brazeau County YouTube page. A summary of the legal costs for the hearings will be made public at the next Brazeau County council meeting.
The Town and County are currently in an arbitration process to hammer out details in their new Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework.
Brazeau County is getting ready to upgrade its wastewater systems.
At the County’s Jan. 18 council meeting, council voted to set aside $618,000 for a new system. The money is set aside to take advantage of an Alberta Wastewater Innovative Grant, estimated to be more than $1.6 million.
Also at the Jan. 18 meeting, council received a presentation from Gideon Mentie of Magna Wastewater Engineering Services about the County’s wastewater projects.
Brazeau County is getting ready to bring in some extra revenue from its solar power projects.
At Brazeau County council’s Jan. 18 meeting, council directed administration to join the Solar Club Loyalty Program. The Solar Club Loyalty Program is an initiative of the power company Get Energy allows people with solar power to sell their excess electricity to Get Energy.
Joining this program will allow the County to sell the excess power generated by the solar array at the Violet Grove Constructed Floating Wetlands.
County administration will also be setting up a separate account for the revenue from solar power, and drawing up a policy for council to consider as to how that money can be spent.
With the recent winter storms in the province, Brazeau County council will be reviewing the County’s current snow removal policies.
Council discussed the current snow removal levels and options to supplement, including contracting equipment. Administration will be drafting a new policy, based on council’s input, and bringing it to councils’ Feb. 8 meeting for further discussion.
At that time, council will also get a demonstration of the County’s Track the Plow app. This allows county residents to follow County snowplows in real time.
