The Town of Drayton Valley is working to help Opportunity Home to move into a new location.
Opportunity Home is looking to open up an Addictions Treatment and Recovery Centre at 5219 – 53 Ave.
In order for the facility to go ahead, however, the parcel of land needs to be rezoned from “commercial” to “community services”.
Town administration spoke quite highly of the location, as it is on the outer fringes of downtown Drayton Valley, with close access to a variety of community services.
Administration elaborated that Opportunity Home is hoping to renovate the existing building to provide a number of bedrooms for clients. Clients will attend for the 90-day program.
Mayor Nancy Dodds said the facility is a great opportunity for the community.
“I think that is something that is definitely needed when dealing with addictions,” said Dodds.
Dodds also shared she has already been in contact with Opportunity Home to find out more about what they do.
“There is a lot of groups, organizations, and individuals right now that are reducing homelessness and poverty and dealing with addictions and mental health,” said Dodds. “One of the things going forward is to make sure we are not duplicating services or working against each other.”
Council passed first reading of the rezoning. It will now go to a public hearing at the Town’s Jan. 19 meeting.
