The Drayton Valley Thunder managed to rack up one win and one loss over the weekend.
It was heartbreak on Dec. 3, as the Thunder suffered a narrow overtime loss to the Blackfalds Bulldogs 3-2.
Tyler Blocha for the Thunder got the ball rolling at 2:38, as he scored and picked up assists from Brett Bamber and Noah Lamb. The Bulldogs mounted a strong defense, as none of the Thunder’s eight other shots got in. At the end of the first, it was 1-0 for the Thunder. The Bulldogs also managed eight shots on net.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 5:42 in the second, as Ryan Johnson scored with an assist from Jayden Jolly. But the Thunder were able to break the tie at 6:19, as Ethan Browne scored with assists from Noah Lam and Rylan Brown. At the end of the second, the Thunder had a narrow 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs outshot the Thunder 11-7.
It was looking good for the Thunder, as they were able to maintain most of their lead for the third period. But then, at 19:09, Nicholas Magis scored for the Bulldogs to tie the game and force overtime. Magis scored with assists coming from Tye Carriere and Brett Meerman. The Bulldogs again outshot the Thunder 9-6.
Brett Meerman managed to give the win to the Bulldogs, scoring unassisted at 2:02 in overtime. The Bulldogs registered three shots on net, while the Thunder had none. Final score was 3-2 for the Bulldogs.

It was a different story on Dec. 5, as the Whitecourt Wolverines paid a visit to the Drayton Valley Omniplex. The Thunder crushed the Wolverines 7-2.
The Wolverines got off to a good start, as Alex Dominique came roaring out of the gate to score at 1:58. Assists came from Jackson Bohan and Cooper Smyl. The Thunder then went on to dominate the first period. Kadyn Chabot scored at 3:21, getting assists from Ethan Brown and Hunter Prize to make it 1-1. Then at 7:35, Luca Ricci scored for the Tunder with assists coming from Andrew Larson and Grayson Reid to make it 2-1 Drayton Valley. At 10:12, the Thunder scored again, as Tyler Blocha lit the lamp and was assisted by Moe Hakim and Brett Bamber to make it 3-1. The Thunder picked up one more at 12:55, as Drew Sutton scored, getting the assist from Brody Tallman. At the end of the first, the Thunder had a commanding 4-1 lead. The Thunder completely outshot the Wolverines, 15-9.
The Wolverines were able to hold the line in the second period, holding off all but one of the Thunder’s 17 shots on net. Rylan Brown slipped one in at 10:45, getting assists from Moe Hakim and Andrew Larson. At the end of the second, the Thunder had increased their lead to 5-1. The Wolverines managed 10 shots on net.
The Wolverines finally managed to get another one on the board at 1:14 in the third. Chase Broda scored and picked up an assist from Tyler Mahan to make it 5-2. But the Thunder went on to increase their lead. At 7:31, Kadyn Chabot scored with assists coming from Brett Bamber and Luca Ricci to make it 6-2. Then at 14:36, Andrew Larson scored with assists coming from Stephen Kirkpatrick and Lucas Kroll. At the end of the game, it was 7-2 for the Thunder. Again, the Thunder outshot the Wolverines 14-11.
The Thunder are now holding steady in fourth place in the Viterra AJHL North Division with 37 points. Their season record is 16-10-5.
