A narrow loss for the Drayton Valley Thunder, as they were beaten by the Whitecourt Wolverines 3-2 on Wednesday.
The Whitecourt Wolverines came on strong in the first period, getting 19 shots on net. But they were unable to get one past Thunder goalie Jackson Berry. The Thunder managed seven shots on net, but Wolverines goalie William Grimard stopped them all. The game was scoreless at the end of the first.
Hunter Price got the Thunder on the board though, 5:31 into the second period. Assists came from Kadyn Chabot and Noah Lamb. The Wolverines responded in kind at 8:59, however, as Riley See scored with assists from Travis Baker and Jarred Feist. The Thunder took the lead at 11:05, as Ethan Browne scored, getting assists from Hunter Price and Kadyn Chabot. At the end of the second, the Thunder had taken the lead, 2-1. The Thunder managed 12 shots on net, compared to the Wolverines 19.
The Wolverines came on strong in the third. Jackson Bohan tied the game at the 9:00 mark with an unassisted goal. Christiano Aiello then scored the eventual game-winning goal at 17:55, getting assists from Nicolas Porterfield and Tyler Mahan. The final score was 3-2 for the Wolverines. The Thunder managed seven shots on net, but again, were unable to get one past Wolverines goalie William Grimard. The Wolverines registered 20 shots on net.
The Wolverines and Thunder are now tied for fourth place in the AJHL Viterra North Division. They each have 30 points with a record of 13-10-4.
After spending their last three games on the road, the Thunder now get to spend the weekend at home in the Drayton Valley Omniplex. Friday night, the Blackfalds Bulldogs come to town. Then on Sunday, they have a matinee game against the Okotoks Oilers.
