According to local Mounties, crime continues to fluctuate in Brazeau County.
At the County’s Nov. 16 meeting, County council met with Staff Sergeant Erin Matthews of the Drayton Valley RCMP and Staff Sergeant Dwayne Moore of the Breton RCMP to deliver the crime statistics for the County.
Drayton Valley reports that, in the parts of the County that they cover, there has been a 14 per cent decline in Criminal Code offences from January to October, when compared to the same period last year.
Breton, however, reports that Criminal Code offences are on the rise. They have had to deal with 251 Criminal Code offences between July and September of this year, when compared to 179 in the same time period last year.
One thing the two detachments were in agreement on is that mental health calls have been on the rise. Brazeau County will be joining with neighbouring municipalities in lobbying the Province to create a police crisis team to relieve pressure on the detachments.
Brazeau County got an update on fundraising for the new DVB Aquatic Centre.
Council got a visit from Loreen Bida and Dave Davie from the volunteer aquatic centre fundraising committee. They filled council in on how fundraising has been going and upcoming fundraising projects in 2022.
They also thanked council for their previous contributions, and hoped they might be able to donate more in the New Year. Council will be taking all funding requests into their budget deliberations.
Brazeau County will be giving some of the County’s parks an assist with their maps.
County council received a request from the Eagle Point Blue Rapids Parks Council for the County to help them update their maps.
The Parks Council would like to have more current maps that they include in their brochures and on their website. Officials say that updated maps will allow users from outside the region to better locate County services as the current maps need existing knowledge of the region.
County council approved the request, and the Geographic Information System (GIS) Department will be working on them in 2022 as their time permits.
