Brazeau County is ready to get to work.
The new County Council held their organizational meeting on Nov. 2.
Council received a visit from councillors from the O’Chiese First Nation Council. O’Chiese First Nation Councillor and elder Martin Ironbow offered prayers for the new council and for continued co-operation between the two councils.
Brazeau County Reeve Bart Guyon reciprocated by giving the O’Chiese First Nation Council a gift of tobacco and a buffalo skull. O’Chiese First Nation Councillor Bernadine Coleman remarked that it was a powerful gift, as the skull is an important part of the sun dance ceremony.
Brazeau County council then got to work setting their schedule. Council meetings will continue to be held on the first and third Tuesday of the month.
Council then set to work laying out the priorities for their 2022 budget deliberations. The County reports that council passed a motion to set aside funds from the 30 per cent municipal tax rebate for residential and commercial properties, and for a project to address hard water issues in Rocky Rapids.
Council’s next meeting is on Nov. 16. Budget deliberations begin on Nov. 17.
