Officials with the Town of Drayton Valley are getting their timelines together for upcoming budget deliberations.
At the town’s Oct. 27 meeting, administration made the proposal to defer budget deliberations to 2022, and spend the rest of 2021 focusing on developing the Town’s strategic plan. This is anticipated to give the new council time to get up to speed on the town’s priorities, and help budget them accordingly.
While councillor Bill Ballas was supportive of the plan, calling it “setting the course before the resource,” he did not agree with delaying budget deliberations. Ballas felt it would be an unnecessary delay should they finish developing the strategic plan early.
With Ballas’s feedback, the timeline was changed so budget deliberations can begin as soon as the strategic plan is finished.
Council will be looking at further budget scheduling at their meeting Nov.3.
