We now have a clearer picture of how the federal election is shaping up locally.
Nominations closed on Sept. 1, and Elections Canada has released the official candidates list.
There are six people running in the riding of Yellowhead. This riding encompasses Drayton Valley and Brazeau County.
Gerald Soroka of the Conservative Party is the incumbent. Soroka is seeking his second term. Soroka is originally a farmer from Evansburg, and served as the mayor of Yellowhead County before making the leap to federal politics.
Sheila Schumacher is running for the federal Liberal Party. Schumacher is a lawyer originally from Edmonton.
Guillaume Roy is running for the federal New Democrats.
Todd Muir is running for the Maverick Party. Formerly known as the Wexit Party, the Maverick Party is centered on bringing more rights to Western Canada. Muir teaches physical education and social studies in Drayton Valley.
Michael Manchen is running for the People’s Party of Canada. The People’s Party of Canada is a new conservative party, formed by Maxime Bernier after he left the Conservative Party. Manchen is a self-employed father of two.
And Gordon Francey is running for the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada. The Veterans Coalition Party is a new party made primarily of veterans and first responders. Francey is a veteran with 14 years of service.
Election Day is Monday, Sept. 20.
