This Thursday, skateboarders will be descending on the Drayton Valley Skate Park for Valley Skate Jam ’21.
This all-ages event is a celebration of the Drayton Valley Skate Park. There will be a DJ, free BBQ lunch, and skateboarding demonstrations from the Edmonton skate team House of Wheels.
Lola Strand, Drayton Valley and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) program manager, says this event is designed to bring a more positive image to the skate park.
“It sometimes gets a bad reputation in town, being this place where bad things happen, but it’s really not,” says Strand.
Members of the Drayton Valley RCMP will also be on hand. Strand says this is to provide a positive interaction between the RCMP and kids.
This is the fifth year that FCSS has held this event, and it always proves to be popular. Even with COVID restrictions, Strand pegs last year’s attendance at around 150 people.
Valley Skate Jam ’21 runs Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Drayton Valley Skate Park. You can find out more information at the Drayton Valley and District FCSS Facebook page.
