The Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Park Council recently appeared before Drayton Valley Town Council to deliver their reports. And while COVID did slow them down a little bit, they still had a rather productive year.
Online Initiatives
Like a lot of organizations, the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Park Council went virtual in 2020, launching their own YouTube channel. They currently have over fourteen hundred subscribers. In addition to that, they launched the Nature Newsletter, so they can reach out to people through e-mail. They also filmed their own educational video. Active for Energy will be launching this fall, and it teaches kids to be good stewards of energy.
Tourism Initiatives
Seeking to get more involved in the community, the Eagle Point Blue-Rapids Park Council has struck up a tourism sub-committee. The goal is to take a regional approach to tourism, and promote the entire region, not just the parks. For the remainder of 2021, they’ll be launching one of their first programs: a mobile tourism information booth. This booth will be set up at events in the region. Not only will it help out newcomers with what activities they can do, but it’ll also remind locals with what amenities are in their own backyard.
Parks Day
Alberta Parks Day is coming up on July 17, and the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council has a full day of activities planned. Unable to do their traditional snowmobile rally this year because of COVID restrictions, they will be hosting a Multi-Sport Poker Rally. You’ll be able to collect your poker hand by participating in seven different sports. Partnering with the Parks Council this year are the Drayton Valley Flying club, so one of the activities is flying a plane. They’ve also worked to make the event more accessible this year, which is why one of the activities is along a wheelchair-friendly path in Discovery Park. The event is free, but you still need to pre-register. Do so by visiting epbrparkscouncil.org.
