The premiere of Spearphishing is almost here. The independent film was made in the Whitecourt and Woodlands County area last year. It’ll be having its world premiere at Whitecourt’s Vista Theatre this weekend. Parts of the movie were actually filmed at the Vista Theatre, and director Tim McKort is grateful for all the support of the owners. “Everything they do is full of love and passion, so I know the theatre will be full of warmth,” says McKort.
McKort also once again gave his praise to the people of Whitecourt and Woodlands County, describing them as a joy to work with. “We had a lot of extremely gifted individuals, both cast members and crew, and a lot of help from the community,” says McKort.
Spearphising is the tale of a police officer and former military man who’s living a nice, secluded life. But, when some Russian villains move in to the area to begin their criminal activities, he’s forced to come out of seclusion to protect the region.
Spearphising is having its world premiere at the Vista Theatre in Whitecourt this weekend, July 24. The July 24 premiere is by invitation only, but there will be screenings open to the public. The public screenings are on July 25, July 31, and August 1. On each day, it starts at 11:30 AM. Tickets are $10.
Sequel Now Filming in Drayton Valley
While making the film, Tim McKort fell in love with the characters so much, that he’s already developing a sequel. Spearphishing 2 is filming in the Drayton Valley and Brazeau County region this month. Filming began on July 9 at the Drayton Valley Airport when they filmed a jet landing. “We had to work around [the jet’s] schedule, and their schedule was July. We shot that scene, and it was really a lot of fun,” says McKort.
Spearphishing 2will be filming off-and-on throughout Drayton Valley and Brazeau County until October. McKort says there’s still great opportunities for local businesses who’d like to be involved. If you’d like to be a part of it, you can e-mail McKort at westerndirectives@shaw.ca.
