The Alberta Health Services’ Screen Test Clinic is scheduled to stop in Breton in early October.
Officials say the mobile mammography trailer will be located at the Breton Continuing Care Centre (4919 49 Avenue) on Oct. 8 and 9, providing low-cost screening mammograms by appointment for eligible residents between the ages of 45 and 74.
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast, which many experts say is the best way to find breast cancer early when treatment may work better. AHS says getting screened for breast cancer saves lives.
In addition to mobile mammography clinics, officials say screening can also be performed at specific radiology clinics and some hospitals. Individuals aged 45 to 74 are encouraged to discuss their breast cancer risk with their healthcare providers to determine whether screening is appropriate for them and book with a radiology clinic or with Screen Test mobile mammography.
