July 4
10:00 a.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant attended the detachment to turn in an unknown white powder she found in a family members room in her residence. The substance was determined to be cocaine and was seized for destruction.
1:00 p.m. – Poplar Ridge – Member on patrol located a stolen truck parked in a driveway. Investigation lead to the discovery of a second stolen SUV in the back yard, and the arrest of a male from the residence. 37-year-old Jeffrey Myles was held for a telephone bail hearing on three counts of possession of property obtained by crime. Myles was subsequently remanded in custody by a Justice of the Peace.
4:26 p.m. – Rocky Rapids area – Complainant called police asking that his brother be given a time frame from police to remove his belongings from a family property. Member advised the complainant that his brother has already been spoken to about this and that he should look into the Residential Tenancy Act for guidance. Note: Police have dealt with more than two dozen complaints from family members on this property since April 1.
July 5
10:05 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported a work truck broken into and several items stolen including a laptop and Visa card. The Visa card had been used at a local gas station. Under investigation, see subsequent report for further details.
11:15 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported a motel guest refusing to leave the property or return his key, after not paying for several days. Members attended and located and arrested 44-year-old William Scarr who was found in the area. Scarr was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property, and one count each of using a stolen credit card and failing to comply. Scarr was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace.
12:11 a.m. – Brazeau County – Information received relating to possible suspects who had attempted to steal two horses in the Carvel area. Member confirmed that the investigating Parkland RCMP member was aware of the suspects and investigating.
1:09 p.m. – Parkland County – Members observed a black pickup at a residence in Tomahawk and noticed the plate didn’t match the truck and was registered to a deceased male. Members followed the truck onto Highway 627 and received assistance from the Parkland RCMP who attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled but a spike belt was successfully utilized and the truck was ditched in a field. The driver and a passenger were arrested while a third occupant fled on foot and wasn’t located. The driver, 41-year-old Luke Deschatelets of Tomahawk was charged with five Criminal Code offences and held for a telephone bail hearing in Drayton Valley RCMP cells where he was subsequently remanded in custody by a Justice of the Peace.
2:47 p.m. – Parkland County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported two males in a pickup drinking while driving toward Drayton Valley. Member located the truck and conducted a traffic stop. The driver provided a breath sample which confirmed he was completely sober. The passenger was issued a ticket for having open alcohol.
3:03 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a package had been picked up at the post office by someone other than himself. Under investigation.
July 6
1:47 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave – Complainant reported a noisy dog somewhere near her residence. Member located three dogs in the backyard of a nearby residence, unattended and practicing barking. Member was unable to rouse anyone in the residence. Member advised town bylaw by email.
8:34 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported ongoing issues with dogs barking outside over multiple nights. Complainant concerned about the wellbeing of anyone in the residence and the care the dogs were receiving. Member was able to speak to the homeowner and determined both he and the dogs were fine. Member suggested he put the dogs inside at night. Note: this was the same dogs as reported at 1:47 a.m.
10:43 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported his grandmother was having a dispute with a tenant. Member investigated and determined the tenant had uttered criminal threats toward persons in the residence. The tenant was arrested and released on conditions with a future court date.
11:56 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a female hadn’t paid for her motel room for several days. Member spoke to the female who was adamant she paid. The female was told to either pay or leave the room prior to 3:00 p.m. The female did leave as requested but not before being involved in the next file.
2:10 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a motel guest had assaulted him while leaving the property. The female was located nearby and arrested. She was held for a telephone bail hearing and released on conditions by a Justice of the Peace.
July 7
8:48 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 85 – Member responded to assist paramedics with a motorcyclist vs dog. Member attended; motorcyclist transported to hospital and a friend assisted with moving his bike off the road. The dog was not located.
July 8
8:50 a.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported a business yard entered overnight. Multiple company vehicles had been entered. Under investigation.
12:35 p.m. – Drayton Valley – RR 73 – Complainant reported fuel stolen and a tank damaged in the process, on a vehicle in a commercial yard. Under investigation.
5:00 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/52 Ave – Complainant reported that a male suspect brandished a rifle from his backpack and pointed it at him through his vehicle window, while he was parked. The complainant provided a description of the male and direction he left in. Members responded and located the male walking into Rotary Park near the Scouts Hall. Members initiated a high-risk takedown and the suspect was quickly taken into custody without incident. A search of the male located a loaded sawed-off 410 gauge loaded shotgun, along with additional ammunition in his backpack. 27-year-old Joshua Spiker was charged with multiple firearms related offences as well as possession of methamphetamine. Spiker was held for a telephone bail hearing and remanded in custody for a bail hearing. Information available to police suggested Spiker had no plans to target any persons in the park.
6:09 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 48 Ave – Complainant reported her unlocked vehicle had entered about a week earlier and bank cards were stolen. The complainant had notified her bank. Under investigation.
8:09 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/North Saskatchewan River Bridge – Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle near the bridge. Member attended and conducted a traffic stop. The driver said he had run out of gas, but investigation determined the 2004 F250 had been reported stolen in Penhold on July 3. Member also found two license plates attached that had been bent to appear as one (very creative); one belonged to the truck, the other had been stolen. 23-year-old Merlin David Campbell of the Red Deer area was arrested and held for a telephone bail hearing on two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, operation while prohibited and fail to comply with probation. Campbell was subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
8:22 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 49 St – Complainant reported that a youth who lives nearby had damaged a fence. Member investigated and determined there were grounds for a mischief charge but there are also some extenuating circumstances. Under investigation.
July 9
11:51 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a fraud; an employee received an email from someone claiming to be her boss, requesting she purchase Amazon gift cards and provide the numbers. The cards were purchased and numbers sent, but the email was fraudulent. Under investigation.
9:01 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 58 Ave – Complainant reported that a known male had followed him and was circling him in his vehicle. Member attended and spoke to the complainant who said the suspect is the brother of his ex-girlfriend and doesn’t like him. The suspect had left but was located and spoken to; he admitted to following the complainant because the complainant had breached an Emergency Protection Order on an earlier date and wanted to speak to him about that (reported on a related file). Member advised the complainant to respect the EPO conditions to avoid conflict, and told the suspect to not continue his behaviour.
July 10
12:15 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported witnessing a male strike a female near a residence. Members attended and after investigation, a male was arrested for assault. The male was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court at a later date.
12:34 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Skatepark – Complainant reported a group of 10-15 youth starting a fire in the skatepark. Member attended and noticed what looked like a fire, but it turned out to be a lantern the group of five were using to light an area.
4:18 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a truck had broken down in the Timmys drive-thru about an hour earlier, and the occupants had pushed it out of the way, stating they would call roadside assistance and get it picked up. When no one returned it was called in as suspicious. Member attended and determined that the truck had been stolen in Breton’s area. The truck was seized for examination and the matter is under investigation.
6:08 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Madsen Ave – Complainant reported his vehicle had been rummaged through overnight, unclear at the time what was missing. Under investigation.
9:42 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant turned in some papers and ID that he found in a hotel parking lot. The owner of the paperwork was called and stated that the papers had been in his truck, which he now noticed had been stolen from his residence in the Breton RCMP detachments area. The truck had already been recovered (see report at 4:18 a.m.)
July 11
8:26 a.m. – Tomahawk – Complainant reported someone used his utility trailer to steal a generator off his property, occurred on July 3. Under investigation.
