Three people are dead following a three-vehicle collision in northern Alberta over the Canada Day long weekend.
On June 29, 2024, at 1:14 p.m. High Prairie and Faust RCMP, as well as Lakeshore Police Service attended a report of a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 33, 25 kilometers south of Highway 2 in the M.D. of Big Lakes.
Upon arrival, Mounties say emergency crews tended to the occupant of one of the vehicles, a Toyota 4 Runner, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The three occupants of the other vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade were all deceased on scene. Police say the deceased persons have all been tentatively identified as a 61-year-old resident of Yellowhead County, a 65-year-old resident of New Brunswick, and a 59-year-old resident of Whitecourt.
RCMP say they remained on scene for several hours conducting an investigation. Although the investigation continues, Mounties say initial reports indicate the Escalade crossed over the centre line where it collided with the Toyota.
RCMP send their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
