March 14
9:39 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Complainant reported that a client at the food bank was verbally abusing staff and causing a scene. Members attended and the complainant requested that the male apologize or not return. The known male refused to apologize so is now banned. The male was also told that contrary to his belief, being banned for bad behaviour did not constitute attempted murder.
10:28 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported a suspicion that a local businessman was involved in human trafficking. Under investigation, but member believes that based on the complainant’s observations there are other more likely circumstances ongoing.
11:16 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Park – Complainant reported a male had assaulted her ex-husband who lives with her. Member attended and investigated, charges pending against a known male who had since left the residence.
1:45 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 72 – Complainant reported a vehicle on fire on a rural property. Member attended with Fire Dept and determined it wasn’t a vehicle or structure, just a large pile of garbage. Brazeau County Peace Officer also attended and issued a bylaw ticket.
March 15
9:16 a.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported her 2009 Blue F150 was stolen on February 9. Under investigation.
9:43 a.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported an intoxicated, unwanted female at his residence. Complainant reported she had punched a hole in his wall. Members attended and arrested the female and lodged her in cells to sober up as she had no other options. The female was later transported to Ponoka for issues observed while in cells.
1:42 p.m. – Cynthia – Complainant reported people stealing from the property of a deceased neighbour. Member attended and found two suspects; a known female claimed she had permission to do so, while a male was only there as hired help. Member told the female to put any items she had taken back, and to not return without verified written permission. Members are aware that the property has been in limbo for several years but were unable to reach any next of kin.
7:52 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/Hwy 22 N – Member on patrol observed a truck doing a brake stand while on Hwy 22 at the light. Traffic stop conducted and a MAS (mandatory alcohol screening) demand read. Driver provided breath samples which resulted in him being issued a 24-hour suspension. The driver was also issued a stunting ticket.
9:21 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 48 St – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop with a car after a routine plate query showed very expired registration and that the owner was a suspended driver. The driver was issued tickets for Driving while Unauthorized, No Insurance and No Registration. The car was also impounded.
March 16
12:31 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/55 Ave – Member on patrol observed an intoxicated male stumbling around a parking lot near a liquor establishment. The male was arrested and held in cells overnight to sober up.
1:14 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Member on patrol near the bar located a truck that had been revving loudly in a nearby parking lot. A traffic stop was conducted with the running truck, and a MAS demand was read to the driver, who subsequently provided two breath samples, both “fail” result. The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving suspension and the truck was impounded.
2:27 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 Ave – Member on patrol was directed by pedestrians to a male laying face down on steps across from the bar. The male was found to be heavily intoxicated so was arrested and held in cells until sober.
7:07 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S – Complainant reported that his unlocked running F250 had just been stolen from Petro-Can. Members patrolled for the stolen truck and another truck that was captured on surveillance dropping the thief off; neither were located. At about 10:40 am the truck was recovered abandoned on a lease site off of RR 71. A fire extinguisher had been sprayed inside the cab and tools were missing. Under investigation.
9:49 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported hearing two shots, about 20 minutes apart. Member investigated and through neighbourhood inquiries determined they were fireworks.
11:14 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 44 Ave – Complainant reported being assaulted by her husband. Members attended and investigated. A male was arrested and charged, and held for a telephone bail hearing. He was released on conditions to appear in court at a later date..
March 17
2:46 a.m. – Drayton Valley – Members were dispatched to several incidents around down town, starting with a dumpster on fire behind the DV Hotel and followed by broken business windows, a mirror broken off a car, car alarms being set off intentionally and then another fire in a shed behind the Bee Hive building on 50 Ave, which resulted in a local power outage. All incidents occurred within approximately 1 hour. Members patrolling the area were able to locate and arrest two men from Drayton Valley; 19-year-old Anthony CLARK and 21-year-old Kasey THIESSEN. Both were held in custody for telephone bail hearings with a Justice of the Peace and were subsequently released to appear in court at later dates. THIESSEN was charged with two counts of Arson, four counts of Mischief and Resisting Arrest. CLARK was charged with two counts of Arson, five counts of Mischief, one count of Failing to Comply with Conditions and Resisting Arrest. Alcohol and Cannabis use appear to have been involved in their decision-making debacle.
4:34 a.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported that a male had been seen on surveillance walking through a business yard about a half hour earlier. Patrols were made but no one was located. Follow-up later in the day found that staff hadn’t noticed anything missing or damaged.
11:14 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported that an acquaintance had seen a truck involved in the theft of a second truck the day before. This truck and another were on a lease site just down from the intersection with Hwy 39. Members attended the area along with Breton members and attempted to stop the two trucks, which left in opposite directions and managed to evade police. Under investigation, suspects in mind.
1:46 p.m. – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported shoplifters left a store with a full cart via an emergency exit about 5 hours earlier. Under investigation.
3:01 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant reported two known suspects stole a phone, occurred on March 12.
4:46 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 80 – Complainant reported some neighbours shooting guns in close proximity to the road and while children playing outside. Member attended and spoke to the residents who were provided some guidance on the use of firearms in the country and on private land.
6:47 p.m. – Lodgepole – Complainant reported a child, about 3 years old, running down the street in only a diaper and boots; possibly headed to the store. The complainant had knocked on the door where the child resides, but got no answer. Member attended and returned the child home; mom may have been in the shower when the escape happened. Referral made to Child and Family Services.
11:58 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 621 – Complainant reported an older dark coloured Chevy truck driving erratically, west bound toward Cynthia. Members patrolled the area including Cynthia but didn’t locate the truck. A plate number was provided but it did not appear to match the described truck.
March 18
10:14 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 54 St – Complainant reported a window broken at a church, occurred over the weekend. Possibly related to other incidents, under investigation.
March 19
4:29 p.m. – Brazeau County – Third party complaint that a youth had been assaulted by a step-parent. Under investigation.
March 20
3:22 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 48 St – Complainant reported an attempted car theft at a neighbour’s residence. Complainant turned on his light and the suspect(s) got back in a truck and drove off. Members followed fresh tracks in the snow and made patrols and located a suspicious truck with a stolen plate attached. The truck was not reported stolen, but after contacting the owner it was determined the truck had been stolen from a work yard while the owner was away. Members located a male still in the truck and arrested him. 29-year-old Levi RAIN of Breton was charged with two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, one count of Failing to Comply with Probation and three counts of breaching release conditions. RAIN was held for a telephone bail hearing and subsequently remanded by a Justice of the Peace.
March 21
12:46 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 51 Ave – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop after noticing that a plate was expired. MAS demand read, driver provided two samples which were both “fail” readings. The driver was issued a provincial impaired driving sanction and his vehicle was impounded.
5:03 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 7/11 – Complainant reported a male in a pickup truck passed out and slumped over the wheel. Member requested paramedics and upon arrival the male had already spoken to paramedics and left. Apparently, the male was fine.
