A Spruce Grove man was arrested following a traffic stop and now faces charges surrounding thefts from vehicles in Stony Plain.
On Sunday Feb. 11, 2024, at about 8:06 a.m., Parkland RCMP say they responded to a call of a suspicious person passed out in a vehicle in Spruce Grove. Police say they arrived to find a male who appeared under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Further investigation determined the truck was stolen and there were stolen items inside. Police also determined the male and the truck were involved in several thefts from vehicles in Stony Plain earlier that day.
Mounties say 37-year-old Spruce Grove resident, Ryan Goebel was arrested and charged with a number of offences:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (x2)
- Possession of a Schedule 1 drug (Methamphetamine)
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
Goebel is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain on Feb. 21, 2024, to answer to the charges.
Police say they would like to thank the citizens in Stony Plain and Spruce Grove for assisting in providing video evidence to help link these incidents together. “This is a great example of police and the community working together in sharing information to help solve crime quickly and bring offenders to justice,” says Cpl. Cuneyt Zanbak with the Community Policing Unit of Parkland Detachment.
