Officials with the Village of Breton say wash station appointments for Tuesday, Jan. 30, are already 50 per cent full and they have started to book a few appointments for Wednesday, Jan 31. Residents who drove through any segments of the spill are being asked to text or call 587-842-1271 to set up an appointment to get their vehicle sprayed off. Officials say the more vehicles that are cleaned, the less the VGO will be tracked around.
The Village of Breton says Highway 20 still is not open and an estimated time of reopening hasn’t been given, however, an update will be provided on the Village of Breton Facebook page as soon as that information is available. Village officials say cleanup crews could be seen working on sections of Highway 20 closer to the village Monday morning.
Village officials say they have received confirmation that cleanup efforts include people walking the ditches and hand shoveling any remnants of the VGO they are finding. Officials say they have also hired two environmental firms to do water testing along the ditches. Experts say the snow seems to be solidifying the VGO and preventing it from getting into the ground even with the warmer temperatures over the last few days.
