Drayton Valley RCMP Weekly Report
January 4-11
January 4
8:04 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 759 – Complainant reported a break-in overnight to a commercial yard.
1:20 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported that he met a female on Snapchat and they exchanged some explicit photos. Now the “female” is demanding he pay $300 or the photos will be sent to family. The suspect has now been blocked and advice was provided, mainly to not send explicit photos to people you’ve never actually met.
January 5
1:38 a.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 39 – Member on patrol located a vehicle abandoned with an apparent mechanical issue as there was no front wheel. Member noted that the plate wasn’t a match and wasn’t supposed to be on a vehicle, and the car was not registered. Member had the car towed.
11:29 a.m. – Yellowhead County – Complainant reported a male and female suspect stole wiring from a lease site and left in a newer grey GMC truck. Possible suspects identified, under investigation.
8:05 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St/46 Ave – Complainant reported persons had tore the doors off the clothing donation bins and had scattered clothes around. Member attended but didn’t locate any suspects. Representative for the bins was advised of the situation.
January 6
2:20 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave/50 St – Complainant reported a female being verbally aggressive to a convenience store employee. Member attended and located the known female outside, complaining and stating she did nothing wrong and just wanted to buy cigarettes. Member spoke to the complainant who said he didn’t want to serve her due to past behaviour, so the female blocked the door. Member advised the employee that the store should issue a Trespass notice and told the female to leave.
9:27 a.m. – Brazeau County – Berrymoor area – Complainant reported checking a lease site and finding a blue Ram pickup on it. The truck then fled the area, and the complainant found some wiring cut, likely prepped to be stolen. No plate obtained, patrols by both Drayton Valley and Breton RCMP didn’t locate the vehicle.
9:46 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported a tenant with a bunch of friends over stripping copper wire and making a mess. One male had a verbal altercation with a maintenance person. Members attended but the altercating male had left. The tenants are being evicted according to the complainant.
9:53 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 52 St – Complainant reported a break and enter that had just occurred in a mobile home. Members attended and determined that the suspect was the resident who had lived there for years.
4:43 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/Twp Rd 503 – Members responded to a truck rollover. Two males in a tree trimming truck were injured and taken to hospital when the truck they were in hit ice and caught the shoulder, causing it to roll into the ditch. One of the males was transported to Edmonton area hospital for treatment, the other was taken to Drayton Valley hospital.
6:27 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported that a male had been locked in the bathroom of a business for an hour and a half. Members attended and found the bathroom empty, though a mess had been left behind. Police do not suspect the male was raptured mid-business.
7:36 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 482 – Complainant reported she has puppies for sale and a person sent money to buy a puppy for a friend and also asked that the complainant buy a gift card to include. The purchaser stated they would pay once given pictures of the gift card. The complainant suspected it was a fraud. Member called the complainant and left a voicemail confirming that this was a fraud and that the intent was likely just to get the gift card. Police commend the complainant for calling police when she thought it was suspicious.
January 7
9:41 a.m. – Drayton Valley – A male attended the detachment to turn himself in on a warrant. While being searched a carton of contraband cigarettes was located and seized. Member issued a warning for the offence under the Tobacco Tax Act.
1:49 p.m. – Parkland County – Hwy 759 – Complainant reported a suspicious grey Jeep Gladiator with a trailer attached, headed north on Hwy 759. Member patrolled the area and located the vehicle in Tomahawk. A traffic stop was attempted during which the driver of the Gladiator struck a police vehicle to escape. Member pursued the vehicle but due to damage to the police vehicle was unable to continue very long. The suspects ditched the trailer a distance up the road and fled toward Hwy 627. The trailer was confirmed as stolen and recovered. Under investigation, suspect in mind.
8:47 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 Ave – Complainant requested assistance in removing a female from a motel as she hadn’t paid and had been given ample time to leave. Member attended and the female left without issue.
January 8
6:53 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 491 – Members notified of a large fire behind the UFA area. Member determined it was a permitted burn of four piles.
7:36 p.m. – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant from file at 3:07 p.m. called back reporting her ex was at her residence, refusing to leave and threatening to ram his truck into the residence. Members attended and arrested a male who was held for a hearing and subsequently released by a Justice of the Peace.
7:45 p.m. – Brazeau County – Twp Rd 491 – Complainant reported a fire by her residence. Member advised complainant it was a controlled, permitted burn. (see 6:53 p.m.)
8:59 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 50 St S – Complainant reported a medium sized dog wandering around with a muzzle duct-taped in place. Member attended and located the dog, who appeared to be blind. Member unable to locate the dog’s owner, so took it to Cause for Critters.
January 9
4:52 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 56 Ave – Members responded to a call for a disturbance at a residence, two females arguing over a SIM card, and one claiming she was being held against her will. Members attended and lodged one female in cells to sober up as she was causing a local disturbance. No charges related to the initial call reasons.
8:16 a.m. – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge area – Complainant reported culprits keep stealing cords from a business yard.
3:25 p.m. – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/50 St S – Complainant reported a female emptying a suspicious Ford truck into a waiting car. Members attended and conducted a traffic stop with the waiting car that was now driving away. The female passenger, who had been seen removing items from the truck was subsequently arrested as the truck was confirmed stolen out of Legal on Nov. 2. 31-year-old Ashley Berger was held for a telephone bail hearing and then released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court in February. Members also observed footprints leaving from the truck and followed them as they headed North but eventually lost the trail. Under investigation. Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this event.
9:38 p.m. – Brazeau County – RR 83 – Members responded to assist firefighters with a garage fire. Fire had the matter in hand, no police assistance was required.
4:45 p.m. – Drayton Valley – 49 Ave – Complainant reported receiving a text from her roommate who indicated he was trashing the place while she was away. Members attended and arrested the male on unrelated warrants.
January 11
3:24 a.m. – Drayton Valley – 58 Ave – Complainant reported a person wearing all black with his hood up acting weird, flailing his arms. Member attended the area but the male wasn’t located.
