A collision involving two semi-trucks shut down a portion of Hwy 16 near Niton Junction for a few hours Tuesday evening.
Edson RCMP say at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 19, they received a report of a two-vehicle collision on 50 Avenue in Niton Junction of Yellowhead County. According to Mounties, a fracking semi-truck and trailer collided with a second semi-truck and trailer hauling two fuel tanks.
RCMP reported a large fuel spill was caused as a result of the collision and with the assistance of area Fire Services, evacuated the area as a precaution due to the hazardous conditions.
According to officials, both east and westbound traffic were affected at the time of the collision.
RCMP re-routed the eastbound lanes of Hwy 16, detouring traffic at Hwy 32 and Range Road 142 west of Carrot Creek. Mounties also re-routed the westbound lanes of Hwy 16 at Nojack, Hwy 751 and Range Road 114A.
No injuries related to this collision were reported to RCMP.
Edson RCMP cleared the scene later that night.
