Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services (DVBCFS) responded to what turned out to be a fatal motor vehicle collision this week.
On Aug. 21 at approximately 11:30 a.m., DVBCFS was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision with entrapment and fire on Highway 39. RCMP, EMS, and EMCON also attended the scene.
Upon arrival, two vehicles were found to be collided and fully involved in fire. A third vehicle had been struck but was not involved in fire.
Officials say the two occupants of one of the involved vehicles had gotten out. However, the driver of the other involved vehicle was reported as still trapped inside. Fire crews were able to suppress the fire but the driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
EMS assessed the occupants of the first vehicle, but officials say neither required transport to hospital.
Brazeau County CPO’s and EMCON detoured traffic around the incident.
RCMP utilized a collision reconstruction analyst in their investigation which prompted the extended highway closure.
Officials note that prior to arrival of fire department resources, several off-duty firefighters were in the area of the incident. Officials say these off-duty members all made a valiant effort to rescue the occupants of both vehicles involved.
